A crown is a false tooth made of porcelain, metal or both. It is placed on top of a tooth in order to restore or strengthen it. We prepare the tooth and we take an impression that we send to the laboratory to fabricate the crown.
Crowns
Main reasons for setting up a crown
- Aesthetics: Improve the shape, color or hide old fillings.
- Broken teeth with extensive fillings when there are no more tooth structure for a new filling and there is a risk losing the tooth.
- Following a root canal treatment: A tooth treated endodontically is empty from the inside and can fracture easily with a simple filling. Often a post (shaft inside for anchoring) and a crown are required to strengthen the tooth and increase long term success rate of the root canal treatment.
