Dental bridge

If a tooth is missing, it is important to replace it with a false tooth (or artificial tooth) as soon as possible. This will prevent the remaining teeth from becoming misaligned and cause other problems. The bridge, also called “fixed bridge” or “fixed partial denture”, is permanently attached to adjacent healthy teeth and replaces one or more teeth.

The procedure :

  1. The dentist prepares the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth, also called pillars, to receive a crown.
  2. The replacement tooth or pontic and the crowns are custom-made in the laboratory, in a single piece.
  3. The dentist places the bridge permanently by cementing it to the adjacent healthy teeth.

The bridge is expected to last about 10 years if you take good care of it. Your dentist will show you how to use a floss threader to floss around the artificial tooth in the center of the bridge.
